The list of remaining 1964 911's worldwide

Not suffering from conversions, # 300018 at least died in style. This might be the most original of all known '64 911's.
In the early
days, rust prevention was no issue in the Porsche factory.
Rust is the number one enemy of these
early cars, followed
by later owners (!), the lack of maintenance and... conversion!
Who could imagine in
the seventies and the eighties that
these skinny, obsolete early 911's would become such an icon? A good
example is my #300170, a pristine, rust and damage free disassembled (!) car, that had been resting in a
Californian barn for 20 years, with 179.000 km on the odometer. I bought it in 1993 for an incredible $ 9.500.
Even in the early nineties everybody was only hunting for 356's. And early 911's? Completely overlooked...
1964

The first 232 cars were produced in 1964. Watch the sequence. #300241 was finished before #300198
"The production of the early 911 was very difficult, especially the
construction of the body. Therefore, the cars that arrived at the Porsche
assembly did not line in numerical order. The cars had 2 numbers (actually 3)
Many cars had to be sent back for adjustments of the body or put on hold
because of missing option parts. In early November 1964 it was decided by
the board that from "today" on the cars must be called and designated
"911". So, every car that had already left the production with the ID plate
reading 901 was and is a 901 and all cars produced and/or finished after
that specific date were a 911. The stamping of the ID plate is the only
difference, there are no specific technical differences between 901 and
911 cars. The factory record books show clearly the line from 901 to 911.
For example Nr. 080 is a 901 and 070 is a 911. The ID plate was mounted
during assembly and not during body production. I checked a few cars that
are 15 nrs. before the change date and 15 nrs. after that date and I found
that they do match the records with 901 or 911 ID plates. There are many
technical differences between the first 200 to 300 cars. Every day the car
was improved, sort of learning by doing process. There are some documents
that show some of the changes but the production managers could not keep
up with the recording of all the small details that were improved. Nr. 079 was
the last 901 but not the highest number, then 049 comes next as first 911.
This was certainly more of a coincidence than planning."

Their website is a real piece of art: Prototyp Hamburg.
Recently, in 2003, the remains of # 300043 have been discovered under a thick layer
of dust in a German workshop. Gongratulations Thomas, with this genuine 901. It will
need a lot of attention, but I guess that the restoration of this piece of history will pay
off.

300049 USA, Jerry Seinfeld. Number 49 was the first car to leave the factory with 911 designation. But there are serious doubts about the authenticity of Seinfelds car.

Would you expect to find a '64 911 in the devastated streets of Beirut? Mark W., a German who is employed in Dubai scored this car in January 2007. He has brought it back home to Germany in the spring of 2008 when he finished his tour of duty.
300131 Kitzbühl, Austria, Mr. Joseph Salvenmoser. Sold by Mirbach Germany in July 2008. Asking price was 140.000 Euro and Mirbach are not known for their flexibility in negotiation... This car looks very nice. The fuel tubing over the cooling fan is absent and unfortunatly, the Solex carburators are replaced by Webers, so is the air intake filter housing.
